Ayurveda Dosha Evaluation Chart
Ayurveda sees us as a mix of three energies: Vata (movement), Pitta (fire), and Kapha (stability). We all have all three, just in different amounts. Life shifts them — seasons, stress, sleep, travel, food. When things go off: Vata can feel restless and dry, Pitta hot and irritable, Kapha heavy and foggy. The goal is balance.
I’ve created a simple questionnaire which you can complete to help you understand your unique Dosha constitution (prakruti) and current Dosha imbalance (vikruti).
How to Use:
Read down the chart, for each trait, mark the column that matched you in childhood (ages 0–18) with a colour/symbol (this is determining your Prakruti).
Repeat this process, this time mark with a different colour/symbol the column that best matches you now (this is determining your Vikruti).
Count all your ‘childhood’ marks and all your ‘current’ marks under each dosha. The highest total indicates your dominant dosha(s) for past and now.
Don’t overthink. Go with what feels most consistently true for you. We are all made up of each of the 3 doshas, so it’s normal to sometimes resonate with more than one but choose the most accurate.
Scoring & Interpretation:
Count your letters under each dosha and identify your constitution (prakruti) and reflect your current imbalance (vikruti). Ties are common (e.g., Pitta-Vata).
Gentle Guidance (at a glance)
An imbalance/elevation is when your vikruti result is different to your prakriti.
For example, if you are a prakriti Pitta (childhood) but results showed Vata for vikruti (now). Then, your Vata is elevated.
If Vata is elevated: Favour warmth, regularity, cooked meals with healthy oils; prioritize rest, steady routines, calming practices.
If Pitta is elevated: Favour cooling foods (bitters, sweet fruits), early dinners, time in nature; soften intensity with moderation and compassion.
If Kapha is elevated: Favour light, warming, stimulating foods and movement; reduce heavy/damp foods; embrace variety and motivation.
